Year Of the Rosary

Pope John Paul II marked the 24th anniversary of his election as Pope last October 16th with the issuance of his Apostolic Letter, "Rosarium Virginis Mariae"("The Rosary of the Virgin Mary"). He declared a Year of the Rosary to continue through World Mission Sunday, on October 19, 2003

In the letter, the Pope said that the Rosary is a powerful prayer for peace, for families and for contemplating the mysteries of Christ's life. He encouraged the addition of five "Mysteries of Light", saying that he hoped they would underline even more clearly the prayer's connection to Christ and would generate a renewed interest in what is generally seen as the most Catholic of prayers.

The Pope asked everyone's help in countering "a certain crisis of the Rosary" marked by a failure to teach the prayer to children and by a suspicion supported by some theologians - that it is outdated, superstitious or anti- ecumenical.

Pope John II Paul said the Rosary has "a peaceful effect on those who pray it," it leads them to see the face of Christ in others, to recognize other's grief and suffering and to yearn to make the world "more beautiful, more just, more closely conformed to God's plan."

The five new mysteries that Pope John Paul added to the Rosary are:

. Christ's Baptism in the Jordan,

. His self- manifestation at the wedding of Cana,

. His proclamation of the kingdom of God with his call to conversion,

. His Transfiguration, and finally,

. His institution of the Eucharist, as the sacramental expression of the Paschal Mystery.

Council Scolarships

Rules adopted in order for the children of

Brother Knights to qualify for Council Scholarships:

1. Members dues must be paid;

2. Members must attend meetings

(except for a legitimate reason, such as working nights).

3. Members must work on committies,

(except for a legitimate reason, etc.).

The children of deceased members who were in good standing automatically qualify.

It is unfortunate that we must institute these rules in order to continue with our charitable work but it is not fair that a few should carry the load for so many.

These rules were adopted in May, 1985
